ABOUT
During three decades of creative leadership opportunities, graduates have provided time and talent through the WFNC Leadership C.O.N.N.E.C.T.I.O.N.S (LC). program crafting projects that empower youth. The latest project is about healthy heart nutrition and fitness education that builds on the strengths of children’s art/talent. The “Youth Empowerment Café”, a nutrition education program powered by LC, validated the need for collaboration with community agencies and organizations. We seek to support early heart health education and self-help approaches.
The ultimate goal of “Red Carpet Kids USA” is to create Peer to Peer Heart Healthy Nutrition and Self-Help Advocates at an early age. The age appropriate nutrition curriculum developed by Kenya Pridgen, LC Alumnae, is used to ensure participants understand the importance of heart healthy nutrition. The self-esteem building game, “I AM”, is being built into the training to enhance personal achievement. The “Red Carpet Kids USA” experience also provides children and youth an opportunity to build their own college book fund. The Young Women in Pink Peer led initiative will be used to ensure participants are ready for the self-help initiative tasks.
Melissa Willis, LC Alumnae, developed “Arts in Motion” in 2006, a therapeutic art project. The, “Red Carpet Kids USA” project is dedicated in her honor as she envisioned art and talent becoming a meaningful component of LC, given its major role in society. Many children use their talent to tell their ‘life stories” and to enhance their success in life.
